MyMM2H

The four MM2H categories

MM2H runs in four categories: Silver, Gold, Platinum and the Special Economic Zone tier. They share the same stay requirement, dependant rules and medical check-up, and differ on four axes: the fixed deposit, the one-off participation fee, the minimum property value, and the length of the pass.

The decision usually turns on two questions: how much capital you can lock up, and whether you need the right to work. Only Platinum permits employment or business.

CategoryFixed depositParticipation fee Minimum propertyPassWork or business
Silver USD150,000 RM1,000 per principal application, one-off RM600,000 5 years No
Gold USD500,000 RM3,000 per principal application, one-off RM1 million 15 years No
Platinum USD1 million RM200,000 per principal application, one-off RM2 million 20 years Yes
SEZ / SFZ USD65,000 / USD32,000 RM1,000 per principal application, one-off Forest City, Johor 10 years Per SEZ terms

Each figure is read from that category's own page on mm2h.gov.my; the per-category pages cite their source and the date it was read. Verified 2026-08-24.

What every category requires

Minimum length of stayIt depends on age, and the ministry category-comparison table states it plainly. Participants aged 25 to 49 must be present 90 days per year, and that presence may be met between the main applicant and/or spouse and dependants rather than by the principal alone. Participants aged 50 and above have NO minimum stay requirement.
Deposit withdrawalUp to 50% of the principal fixed deposit may be withdrawn after approval, for purchasing a residence, education, medical treatment or tourism activities in Malaysia.
Property lock-inThe purchased residence may not be sold for 10 years. It may be upgraded to a residence of higher value.
DependantsSpouse; biological, step or adopted children under 21 (those aged 21 to 34 must be unemployed and single while in Malaysia); medically certified children with disabilities at any age; parents and parents-in-law.
Medical check-upA medical check-up at a clinic or hospital on the MOTAC panel is compulsory for the principal and dependants after approval.
EducationDependent children may study up to tertiary level at any government-recognised institution, either on the existing MM2H pass or on an automatically granted Student Pass.
RenewalThe pass is renewable every 5 years once the programme maximum has been completed, on production of a valid passport, a current medical report and health insurance.
TaxNo tax on foreign funds or foreign income brought in, and none on the profit earned by the fixed deposit in Malaysia. This is the programme stating its own tax position; how any particular income is treated still depends on your tax residency and is a matter for the Inland Revenue Board.
Change of principalOn the death of the principal, the MM2H pass of the deceased is transferable to the next-of-kin among the registered dependants.

Common questions

How many MM2H categories are there?
Four: Silver, Gold, Platinum and the Special Economic Zone (SEZ/SFZ) category. They differ in the fixed deposit, the one-off participation fee, the minimum property value and the length of the pass.
Which MM2H category is the cheapest to enter?
By fixed deposit, the SEZ/SFZ category: USD65,000 for ages 21 to 49 and USD32,000 for ages 50 and above, against USD150,000 for Silver. The trade-off is that the residence must be bought in Forest City, Johor.
Which MM2H category lets me work in Malaysia?
Only Platinum permits employment and business or investment activities. Silver and Gold permit neither. Platinum carries a USD1 million fixed deposit and an RM200,000 participation fee.
Is the 90-day stay requirement the same for every category?
It depends on age, and the ministry category-comparison table states it plainly. Participants aged 25 to 49 must be present 90 days per year, and that presence may be met between the main applicant and/or spouse and dependants rather than by the principal alone. Participants aged 50 and above have NO minimum stay requirement.

Once the category is settled, the application is lodged through a licensed company: see the register of 242 licensed MM2H companies or read the requirements in full.
