Most MM2H writing stops at what you must have. This is what the pass gives back, and the useful thing to understand before choosing a category is which of these entitlements move with the category and which do not.
Two change. The rest do not. The minimum property value changes, and the foreign maid entitlement is listed on Platinum alone. Dependants, education, the medical check-up and the ten-year property lock-in are identical on Silver, Gold, Platinum and SEZ.
Property is an obligation, not an option
Buying a residence is a condition of the programme rather than a right you may exercise later, and it is also what much of the fixed deposit may be released for.

The residence may not be sold for ten years. It may be upgraded to a residence of higher value, which is the only exit the programme offers. Up to 50 percent of the fixed deposit principal may be withdrawn after approval, and purchasing that residence is one of the permitted purposes.
The dependant definition reaches upward
This is the entitlement most often underestimated. The MM2H dependant set is not only children:
- a spouse
- biological, step or adopted children under 21, and those aged 21 to 34 provided they are unemployed and single while in Malaysia
- medically certified children with disabilities, at any age
- parents and parents-in-law
Most long-stay passes reach downward to children and stop. Reaching upward to parents and parents-in-law is a genuine differentiator for anyone moving with an older generation to support.
Two practical notes attach to it. A processing fee of RM5,000 for the principal and RM2,500 for each dependant applies, so a large family is materially more expensive than the headline figures suggest. And on the death of the principal, the pass is transferable to the next-of-kin among the registered dependants, which is why keeping that register accurate matters more than it appears at application time.
Children may study, with one age line
Dependent children may pursue education up to tertiary level at any government-recognised institution, on the existing MM2H pass or on a Student Pass granted automatically. This does not vary by category.
The age line sits at the counter rather than in the programme rules: the Immigration Department processes permission to study for applicants below 18, on a 14-working-day charter. A dependant over 18 applies for a student pass instead, which is a different transaction.
A domestic helper is two separate questions
The Platinum category page lists a foreign maid among the dependants a participant may bring. The Silver, Gold and SEZ pages do not.
Separately, the Immigration Department publishes a New Domestic Helper guideline for MM2H participants, on a 14-working-day charter, which for a Filipino helper requires approval from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.
So one question is whether a helper counts as your dependant, which is a Platinum matter, and the other is the procedure for employing one at all, which the Immigration Department handles. They are not the same question and the answers come from different bodies.
What is deliberately absent from this page
Two things people search for are not here: buying a car and driving licence conversion.
Both are real demand. Neither is stated by mm2h.gov.my, and the only sources that do state them are agent blogs, which is the stale corpus this site exists to correct. They stay unwritten until a primary source states the rule, because a confident answer from the wrong source is worse than no answer.
